Y12&13 Christmas Lecture 'Artificial Intelligence in Chemistry'
Artificial Intelligence in Chemistry: Transforming Discovery, Learning and Your Future
AI is already changing chemistry. It helps scientists design new molecules, analyse huge datasets, predict chemical behaviour, and accelerate discoveries that once took years. At the same time, tools like ChatGPT are transforming how students learn, revise, solve problems and communicate science.
But if AI can generate answers, analyse data and even suggest experiments, what does that mean for the scientists of the future?
This talk will explore what AI really is, how it is being used in chemistry research and education, and where it can go wrong. Through real examples from the laboratory and classroom, we’ll discover how AI can become a powerful scientific tool, provided we know when to trust it, when to challenge it, and when to think for ourselves.
