The first hybrid Faraday Discussion
Understanding Crystallisation
Returning to an in-person meeting for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, the first hybrid Faraday Discussion took place on 28-30 March in York on the topic of Understanding Crystallisation.
A total of 165 delegates joined us, 81 in person and 84 online, from over 20 different countries. 25 speakers attended the meeting in person, with eight joining online due to ongoing travel/covid restrictions.
The meeting was live-streamed and recorded, with sessions and posters available to registered delegates to view on demand for 30 days after the meeting.
Cameras were brought in to record and stream the presentations and the in-person audience, meanwhile an online host monitors the chat and Q&A function and fed back online questions and comments to the Chair.
Despite the increased complexity and additional challenges presented by the hybrid format, the return was a resounding success. Feedback from the attendees was excellent, with committee member Professor Mike Anderson praising the RSC’s commitment to delivering a hybrid event in these unprecedented times.
