John Keith Hodgson CChem MRSC died on 18th March 2026, at the age of 92 years. He graduated from London University in Physical Science and Maths in 1958. He initially worked at British Ropes in Retford, Nottinghamshire, as an analytical chemist, prior to embarking on a long teaching career.

He taught maths and chemistry at several schools in West Yorkshire, including Salt Grammar School, Shipley and Batley Girls' Grammar School, where he was also Head of 6th Form. He marked and set chemistry exam papers for the Joint Matriculation Board, which later became AQA, eventually becoming Chief Examiner for GCSE Chemistry. He was a kind and outstanding teacher, who inspired generations of students to achieve their potential, and maintained a lifelong interest in chemistry.
