Baris Kumru

Biography
Baris completed his BSc and MSc Chemistry at Istanbul Technical University, and PhD at Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces focusing on polymer semiconductors and colloidal systems. His stay at the institute was extended first for a one-year PostDoc position then as Group Leader for 2 years. Later, he was appointed as Assistant Professor at the age of 29 at Delft University of Technology-Aerospace Engineering Faculty in the Netherlands, where he worked on industrial structural polymers and composites for aerospace applications. Since October 2025, he has been a faculty member at VISTEC-Energy Science and Engineering in Thailand where he merges his expertise on fundamental science and applied research. He also focusses on equal opportunities for teaching and research for developing countries. He was named among the Influential Researchers by American Chemical Society’s Industrial and Engineering Chemistry in 2022. He is an editor of an upcoming book entitled ‘Vitrimer Resins’ published by the Royal Society of Chemistry. The societal value of his work has been featured on many news and magazine platforms as diverse as the KLM Airlines in-flight magazine and sustainabilityionline.net.
