Biography
Igor Larrosa is Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Manchester. He studied chemistry at the University of Barcelona, where he completed his PhD and spent part of his doctoral research in Erick M. Carreira’s laboratory at ETH Zürich, before carrying out postdoctoral work with Anthony G. M. Barrett at Imperial College London. In 2007, he began his independent career at Queen Mary University of London and moved to the University of Manchester in 2014.
His research focuses on the development and mechanistic understanding of catalytic reactions, particularly transition-metal-catalysed C–H functionalisation, decarboxylative transformations and ruthenium catalysis. His group combines synthetic chemistry with kinetic analysis, computation and machine learning to understand reaction mechanisms and develop more efficient catalytic processes. His work has been recognised by awards including the RSC Corday-Morgan Prize and Robert Robinson Prize.
