Biography

Dr Nagula Shankaraiah is a distinguished medicinal chemist from India with significant contributions to medicinal and synthetic organic chemistry. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2007 from Kakatiya University and carried out research at CSIR–Indian Institute of Chemical Technology under the mentorship of Dr. Ahmed Kamal. He subsequently pursued postdoctoral research in 2008 at the University of Talca, Chile, with Prof. Leonardo S. Santos. He also worked with Prof. Marcos N. Eberlin at UNICAMP, Campinas, Brazil.

Later in 2009, he joined National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Hyderabad, as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry. Through his consistent contribution to academicsa, research, and various administrative responsibilities, he progressed as to Professor and is currently heading the department.

Dr. Shankaraiah has received the prestigious OPPI Young Scientist Award in 2010 and best research performance award from NIPER-Hyderabad in 2016. He was elected as a Fellow of Telangana Academy of Sciences in 2021.

His research area primarily focuses on the rational design and synthesis of NCEs for anticancer drug discovery by targeting epigenetic regulation, dual inhibitory mechanisms, multi-kinase pathways, topo-II, and tubulin. In parallel, he has also made significant contributions to the development of sustainable synthetic methodologies in organic chemistry.
