Dr Veronica Sofianos

Biography
Veronica Sofianos is an Associate Professor in the School of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering at University College Dublin in Ireland. She is a materials scientist with a PhD in Chemistry. Before joining UCD in 2020, she was a research fellow for 5 years at Curtin University in Western Australia. She is the Programme Director of MEngSc in Chemical Engineering and the chair of the RSC Chemical Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Interest Group. Her research focuses on developing sustainable, low-cost, and scalable nanomaterials to decarbonise the energy sector. It combines green synthesis with synchrotron science to establish structure–property–performance relationships. She is an advocate of supporting the next generation research scientists, especially women, and promoting sustainable careers.
