Biography
Dr Wendel Wohlleben is scientific director of the division on Hazardous Substances and Biological Agents at the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA, Berlin). Wendel studied in Heidelberg, Paris and Munich, where he obtained his PhD in 2003 with a biophysical thesis, and worked as postdoc at Marburg University. He was a researcher at BASF Ludwigshafen from 2005 to 2025. Whilst there he contributed to the development of innovative materials and lead the investigation of their safe uses, most recently as senior principal scientist at the department of Chemical, Material and Regulatory Sciences. He has an h-index of 63, serves as co-chair of the European NSC work group on SSbD (Safe and Sustainable by Design), and contributes to the German delegation to OECD WPMN.
