Yuichi Negishi

Biography
Yuichi Negishi is a Professor at the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials, Tohoku University, Japan. He received his PhD from Keio University in 2001. After working at the Institute for Molecular Science, he established his independent research group at Tokyo University of Science in 2008 and moved to Tohoku University in 2024.
His research focuses on the precise synthesis and characterization of metal nanoclusters and the development of functional materials based on these well-defined building blocks. His group investigates how atomic composition, structure and surface chemistry govern catalytic properties, with particular interests in electrocatalysis for fuel cells, water splitting and carbon dioxide reduction. The group also develops metal cluster assemblies and covalent organic frameworks for energy and environmental applications.
His awards include the PCCP Prize from the Royal Society of Chemistry (2007), the IUPAC Distinguished Award for Novel Materials and Their Synthesis (2018), and the Chemical Society of Japan Award for Creative Work (2021).
