Our Technician Skills Development Grant supports technicians working in all sectors (for example industry, academia, education or research) to undertake short to mid-term visits to organisations overseas or within their current country of residence, with the aim of developing skills to support their career progression.
There are several options that can be applied for:
One-off visit (up to 3 months) outside current country of residence (up to £5000*)
One-off visit (up to 3 months) within current country of residence (up to £3000*)
Multiple visits to the same organisation (of up to 3 months each over 2 years) outside current country of residence (up to £7000*)
Multiple visits to the same organisation (of up to 3 months each over 2 years) within current country of residence (up to £6000*)
* Our grants will contribute towards return travel to the host organisation, accommodation and subsistence during the visit.
Assessment procedure
All applications are assessed by the Technician Skills Development Grant Working Group who have oversight of the entire grant scheme. The Group comprises members of the Registration Committee and will meet three times throughout the pilot phase, which will run from 1 January 2020 to 31 May 2021. Application deadlines are as follows:

This application form is for use by members of the Royal Society of Chemistry employed as technicians working in all sectors to apply for the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Technician Skills Development Grant. All applications made and grants awarded are subject to the Royal Society of Chemistry Technician Skills Development Grant terms and conditions 2020 which can be found here and the Royal Society of Chemistry expenses policy.

- A supporting statement from your current line manager that includes reference to your professionalism, scientific approach, your commitment to developing technical skills and how the activities proposed in the application will support your career development.
- A supporting statement from your proposed host confirming that they are willing to host you and how they will support you to undertake the proposed training and/or development activities.
- Details of any Technician Skills Development Grant or any other grant from the RSC you have applied for or received previously.
