Immunoengineering, an interdisciplinary field at the nexus of immunology, materials science, and biomedical engineering, is revolutionizing 21st-century healthcare by harnessing the immune system to address complex challenges such as cancer, autoimmune disorders, infectious diseases, tissue regeneration, and chronic inflammation. By designing advanced biomaterials, cellular therapies (e.g., CAR-T cell therapies), and immunomodulatory systems, this rapidly evolving discipline enables precise immune modulation, personalized medicine, and enhanced vaccine platforms. These innovations leverage the immune system’s ability to distinguish self from non-self, offering targeted activation or suppression of immune responses while promoting sustainability through biocompatible and biodegradable materials for long-term therapeutic applications. Immune engineering also plays a pivotal role in combating infectious diseases through novel vaccine platforms and antiviral strategies, addressing urgent global health needs and paving the way for a healthier, more resilient future. This collection, spanning Biomaterials Science and Journal of Materials Chemistry B, will showcase advanced research and insightful opinions on immune-modulating materials, cellular therapies, and systems for advanced biomedical applications in immunotherapy, vaccine development, and immune homeostasis. It aims to foster interdisciplinary discussions and drive the field forward through innovative solutions. Please note that this open call is open to primary research submissions only. Authors are encouraged to select the journal that best fits the scope of their work and we encourage you to see the journal’s website for more information on the journal’s scope, standards, article types and author guidelines. All manuscripts will undergo the normal initial assessment and peer review processes, if appropriate, in line with the journal’s high standards, managed by the journal editors. Accepted manuscripts will be added to the online collection as soon as they are published and will feature in a regular issue of the relevant journal. Please note that peer review or acceptance is not guaranteed. If you would like to contribute to this themed collection, please submit your article directly through the selected journal submissions platform. Please mention that your submission is a contribution to the Immunoengineering collection in the “Themed issues” section of the submission form and is in response to the Open Call. The Editorial Office reserves the right to check the suitability of submissions in relation to the scope of both the journal and the collection, and as such, inclusion of accepted articles in the final themed collection is not guaranteed. If you have any questions about the collection or the submissions process, please contact the editorial office and they will assist you. |
