Recent trends in solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOECs), based on both oxide ion and proton conducting materials, focus on improving performance, durability, and scalability for green hydrogen production. This is a key technology for the near future as it will enable the required production of hydrogen in a clean and affordable way, essential in accelerating the energy transition. The main developments in the field include the use of advanced materials, novel designs and microstructures, innovative manufacturing techniques such as 3D printing, advanced stack designs and also their integration with renewable energy sources. Research is currently showing significant interest in the development of co-electrolysis systems for the subsequent production of synthetic fuels. We invite submissions of original research articles and review articles that explore both the fundamental principles and practical applications, surrounding but not restricted to, the following topics:
Manuscripts should be submitted via our online submission service and the editorial office informed by email. Please add a “note to the editor” in the submission form when you submit your manuscript to say that this is a submission for this themed collection. The Editorial Office and Guest Editors reserve the right to check the suitability of submissions in relation to the scope of the collection and inclusion of accepted articles in the collection is not guaranteed. All manuscripts will be subject to the journal's usual peer review process. Accepted manuscripts will be added to the online collection as soon as they are online, and they will be published in a regular issue of Materials Advances. |
