Eduardo Bolea Fernández obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Chemistry from the University of Zaragoza (Spain) in 2012. He earned his PhD in Chemistry from Ghent University (Belgium) in 2017, working within the A&MS research unit. Following his PhD, he was awarded several postdoctoral fellowships from the Ghent University Special Research Fund (BOF) and the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO). In 2023, he was awarded a five-year Ramón y Cajal contract by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, and joined the MARTE research unit at the University of Zaragoza.
ICP-mass spectrometry has been at the core of Eduardo’s research, ranging from fundamental developments to interdisciplinary applications. His current research focuses on single-event ICP-MS(/MS) for discrete entity analysis, including nanoparticles, microplastics, and cells, while also exploring alternative sample introduction systems, ionization sources, measurement modes, and complementary analytical techniques.
Eduardo’s research has so far resulted in 66 peer-reviewed publications and has been presented at more than 100 conferences, including approximately 20 invited or keynote lectures delivered by him. His work has been recognized with several awards, including the 2018 IUPAC-Solvay International Award for Young Chemists, the 2022 Winter Conference Young Scientist Award in Plasma Spectrochemistry, and the 2024 Emerging Leader in Atomic Spectroscopy Award. He has also secured competitive funding at the European and national levels. In addition, he actively supervises undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students and contributes to teaching and academic service.
