For outstanding contributions to the understanding or development of miniaturised systems.

Dr. Han Wei Hou is an Associate Professor at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU). He currently serves as the Assistant Dean (Students) at NTU College of Engineering and is a Principal Research Scientist at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Dr. Hou received his BEng (First Class Honours, 2008) and PhD (2012) in Biomedical Engineering from the National University of Singapore, followed by postdoctoral training at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 2012 to 2014. He subsequently joined LKCMedicine as its inaugural LKCMedicine Postdoctoral Fellow in 2014 and established the BioMicroSystems Laboratory at NTU in 2018. His research focuses on label-free microfluidics, extracellular vesicles, organ-on-chips, and biomanufacturing, with a strong emphasis on translating research innovations into clinical applications and commercially viable technologies.
Dr. Hou has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed journal publications and filed 15 patents and patent applications. His research recognitions include being named among the World’s Top 2% Scientists (Stanford University, 2023 – 2025), the International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering (IAMBE) Early Career Award (2022), NTU College of Engineering Research – Young Faculty Special Mention (2022), the IFMBE Asia-Pacific Research Networking Fellowship (2022), the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC) Innovators Award (2021), Lab on a Chip Emerging Investigators Series (2019), and Interstellar Initiative Early Career Investigators (2018). Beyond his research, Dr. Hou is actively engaged in the biomedical and microfluidics communities. He has served as Assistant Honorary Secretary of the Biomedical Engineering Society Singapore since 2021 and was the Conference Chair for the Asia Pacific Societies for Extracellular Vesicles Conference 2025 (APSEV2025) in Singapore. He also served on the MicroTAS Executive Technical Program Committee (ETPC) from 2017 to 2021 and the MicroTAS Promotions Committee in 2024 and 2025.
