Waive goodbye to APCs for another year
Authors wishing to publish in our flagship open access journal, Chemical Science, will be able to do so free of charge in 2017.
Chemical Science moved to gold open access (OA) in January 2015. Article processing charges (APCs) were initially waived for two years. We’re extending this waiver, making the journal free for authors, as well as readers, for at least another year.
A world leader with global impact
After launching in 2010, Chemical Science quickly built its reputation as a dynamic, globally relevant home for findings of exceptional significance from across the chemical sciences.
Since becoming the world’s first high-quality, gold open access chemistry journal two years ago, that reputation is only getting stronger.
- In 2014, before its move to open access, the journal published 601 articles. In 2015, this rose to 877. This year, we’re at 473 and counting.
- The latest Journal Citation Reports® show Chemical Science has an impact factor of 9.144*, making it one of the top 20 journals in its category.
Chemical Science is the world's window on the latest high impact and quality research. I applaud this bold step of the RSC's in opening up the content of their flagship journal. It shows how the UK is leading the world not only in chemistry research but in applying open access principles. Giving the widest access to public funded research is of great benefit to society and acts as a driver for economic growth.
Shaping the future of open access publishing
The open access landscape is evolving, with more and more authors publishing OA. The range of OA publishing options needs to grow, both to accommodate this rise and to give authors more choice over where to publish their research.
