Biography
Michael Rowan is executive editor for a portfolio of our journals. He has over twenty years’ experience in scholarly publishing. Before joining us in 2022, he spent over a decade at a large commercial publisher as the editor-in-chief of a catalysis journal. He is responsible for leading editorial strategy and development, working closely with academic editors, authors and reviewers to deliver high-quality, impactful research to a global audience.
His work has focused on developing journal programmes through data-informed strategy, strengthening peer review and editorial policy, and supporting the transition towards open access publishing. He has a particular interest in fostering collaborative relationships with academic societies and scientific communities worldwide. Michael holds a PhD in homogeneous catalysis from the University of East Anglia and maintains has a strong interest in green and sustainable science.
Outside of work, Michael enjoys swimming, reading, miniature painting and live music.
