Transition-metal nitrosyl compounds. Part 12. Bis- and tris-(tertiary phosphine)nitrosylnickel(II) hexafluorophosphate complexes

Abstract

The nickel nitrosyl cations [Ni(NO)Ln]+(L = PPh3, n= 2 or 3; L = PMePh2, n= 3) have been prepared from the reaction of [Ni(CO)2L2] with NOPF6 in C6H6–MeOH or from the reaction of [NiCl2L2] with Na[NO2] and L in the presence of CO. Some reactions of [Ni(NO)(PPh3)3]+ with the nucleophiles [OMe], X(X = Cl, Br, or I), [S2CNR2], Ph2P[CH2]2PPh2, and PMePh2, have been examined. A 31P n.m.r. study reveals that the complex [Ni(NO)(PPh3)3][PF6] probably exists in two isomeric forms, one of symmetry C3v and the other of C2v.
