We emphasise the pivotal role that the chemical sciences and chemists play in understanding, diagnosing and treating human disease, and the technological advances that underpin this capacity.
In addition we highlight the role of chemistry in more general aspects of human health and wellbeing.

The role of the chemical sciences in addressing antimicrobial resistance
November 2013
The House of Commons Science and Technology Committee held an inquiry into antimicrobial resistance and its threat to the UK. We submitted a response to a call for evidence on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and recommended that in order to address AMR there was a need for a long-term strategy for investment, a need to incentivise research, improve collaboration between researchers and improve the integration of different disciplines working to tackle AMR.
Chemistry skills for drug discovery
April 2013
Chemistry expertise is critical to technical success across the spectrum of innovative medicines R&D. This position paper describes the changes that have taken place in the drug discovery sector and the challenges this presents in terms of ensuring chemistry, as the key enabling science, continues to deliver the essential translation of biological opportunity into clinical application.
Chemistry for Better health
December 2012
Chemistry for Better Health summarises the outcomes of the third annual Chemical Sciences in Society Summit in 2011, which focused on advances in chemistry for modern medicine. It demonstrates the many ways in which chemistry is already underpinning breakthroughs in tackling human health challenges. The full white paper presents an international view on how chemistry can contribute positively to human health.
