Science, health and government come together at Science and the Assembly

Academics, industrialists and policy-makers will discuss the role science plays in health at the fifth annual Science and the Assembly event.

Presentations and poster exhibitions around this year's theme, Science and Health, will help to raise awareness among Assembly Members of important developments in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry, and sponsored on a quadripartite basis by the four major Assembly parties, Science and the Assembly has successfully allowed scientists and government to share ideas and celebrate science in Wales for the past five years.

Among the speakers are Dr Owen Crawley, the Chief Scientific Adviser Health to the Welsh Assembly Government, who will give a talk titled: "Scientists in Healthcare: who needs them?"

Professor Nigel W. John of Bangor University will lead a talk on "Training in a Virtual Medical Environment".

After the talks from various speakers, an evening exhibition of posters will be held in the Senedd building.

A large number of scientific organisations are cooperating in this event, including the Biosciences Federation, Campaign for Science and Engineering, Institute of Biology, Institute of Physics, the Science Council, the Environment Agency and the Society for General Microbiology.
