ChemSpider wins best practice award

The Royal Society of Chemistry's ChemSpider platform has won a 2010 Bio-IT World Best Practices Award for Community Service. Dr Antony Williams, VP of Strategic Development and Valery Tkachenko, Chief Technology Officer for ChemSpider, received the award at the annual Bio-IT Awards Dinner.

ChemSpider is fast becoming the world's pre-eminent online resource of chemistry-related data integrating millions of chemical compounds with hundreds of online resources. ChemSpider presently hosts close to 25 million chemical structures that link to additional online resources such as Google's Books, Patents and Scholar offerings and the RSC's archive of over half a million articles and chemical database records.

Antony Williams comments "With ChemSpider we have taken on the challenge of integrating the multitude of online structure-based chemistry and life science databases into a single intuitive portal so that chemists can quickly find information of value to their research. Coupled with our online crowdsourcing platform for data curation and deposition we are focused on improving the quality and quantity of available structure-based data for the community. We are honored to be recognized through this award for our efforts".

The award was announced Wednesday April 21 at the Bio-IT World Conference & Expo in Boston.
