Sir, It is welcome to read that Michael Gove, the Education Secretary, is announcing a target of every school in England having 50 per cent of all pupils achieving five "good" GCSEs, including maths - which is integral to the study of the chemical sciences (June 15). For the UK to match our international competitors, we must produce more science, technology, engineering and maths graduates and also ensure that the right jobs are available for these highly skilled people when they enter the workplace.
