Learned societies hold joint workshop on open access in the UK
On Monday 25 February the Royal Society of Chemistry, together with the Royal Society, the Institute of Physics, the Society of Biology and the Academy of Medical Sciences, held a joint workshop on the implications of open access on scientific research in the UK, hosted by the Royal Society and chaired by Dame Janet Finch.
Researchers, librarians and publishers from institutions across the UK gathered to hear speakers from Research Councils UK (RCUK) and the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) set out their policies on open access, and to voice their opinions on open access implementation.
The event was also attended by the UK Science Minister, David Willetts, who gave a short presentation and answered questions from the audience.
The organising societies have prepared a joint statement summarising the main outcomes of the day which is available for download below.
