Petrochemicals plant closure dismays UK chemistry community
The Royal Society of Chemistry is dismayed by the news that the Grangemouth petrochemicals plant in Scotland is to be closed down permanently.
The plant, which has operated for decades, has been a major feature of the British chemicals landscape and one of Scotland's biggest employers.
While petrochemicals are clearly important to the wider chemicals industry, the sector is absolutely essential to ensuring the delivery of the government's broader industrial sector strategies.
The Royal Society of Chemistry is deeply concerned about the job losses at Grangemouth but also the many others, numbering thousands, who will be affected through the loss of sub-contract and supply work.
We are also ready to offer careers guidance and counselling support to our members who are to be affected by the decision.
