A seal of approval for training courses
As part of our commitment to supporting skills development in the chemical science community, we are now offering training providers the opportunity to apply for formal approval of their courses. The aim is to provide our community with access to a database of high-quality training courses that meet their specific needs.
The approval process involves peer-review by experts drawn from across our scientific divisions. To gain our seal of approval a training course has to satisfy a set of criteria:
- The course clearly addresses a professional or vocational need.
- Course tutors have appropriate qualifications and/or experience.
- Appropriate teaching/learning methods are used and learning outcomes are clear.
- Feedback is requested and used to improve the course.
- Environment, health and safety requirements are upheld.
We have already had discussions with over 20 training providers and have received applications for approval of both scientific and professional skills training. Building on this, we will continue to grow a diverse list of approved training courses covering all sectors of the chemical sciences.
Diane Turner from Anthias Consulting, explains why her organisation was among the first to have their courses approved: “We are committed to providing high-quality training and consultancy in gas chromatography and related techniques. Having the Royal Society of Chemistry review and approve our range of courses gives us the confidence that the content we write, the advice that we give and the courses we teach attain a level of quality as a whole that provides the best training experience for our clients.”
As the programme develops, we are planning to strengthen the links between approved training and other support for professional development that we provide.
