GCSE results 2015
The suspense is over for thousands of pupils who sat their GCSEs this summer, as results were revealed this morning. We want to congratulate all of the students on their hard work to prepare for their exams and we wish them well for the future.
Thousands of pupils sat GCSEs in science subjects this year. There were 133,618 pupils who took the separate Chemistry GCSE, 395,484 took the Science GCSE, 332,960 took Additional Science and 23,389 took Further Additional Science. There was a slight shift in fewer pupils taking chemistry as a separate GCSE, and more taking the Science, and Additional Science GCSE routes.
There was relative stability in the numbers of students achieving A*-C grades and a slight rise in the numbers of students achieving A*-C grades in the individual Chemistry GCSE. The numbers achieving these grades increased to 91.2% compared to 90.7% last year. Grades for those sitting the Science, Additional Science, and Further Additional Science GCSEs did actually see a slight drop this year compared to 2014. Pupils achieving A*-C grades decreased from 59.1% to 56.7% in the Science GCSE, from 64.2% to 63.2% in the Additional Science GCSE and from 84.2% to 79.8% in the Further Additional Science GCSE.
We hope to see many of those who took their GCSEs in science subjects this summer progressing on to further studies in chemistry and science. There are many different routes students can take that include A-levels, vocational qualifications, apprenticeships and more.
