Partnership with Chartered Management Institute recognises chemical scientists in management
We have partnered with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) to enable members to be awarded Chartered Manager status.
The partnership allows Royal Society of Chemistry members that hold Chartered Chemist (CChem) status and have at least five years of management experience to apply for the qualified route to Chartered Manager (CMgr) via the CMI website.
Chartered Manager is the UK’s highest management accreditation, demonstrating professional development and contributing benefits to businesses worldwide. According to CMI’s Mapping Management Excellence 2015 report, Chartered Managers estimate that they add on average £391,000 in value to their employer and 83% say they have become a better manager as a result of attaining professional status.
The partnership recognises that many chemical scientists take on management positions and by applying for the award, CChem holders can demonstrate performance and achievement in the areas of leading people and managing change, complementing their technical specialism.
“Our partnership with the Chartered Management Institute will help to ensure our members get the recognition they deserve for their expertise and experience,” says Dr Helen Pain, Deputy Chief Executive of the Royal Society of Chemistry. “I have been a member of the Chartered Management Institute for 12 years and it is fantastic that our members will be able to take advantage of their outstanding support and resources. As a CChem holder, I am looking forward to applying for Chartered Manager this year, and I hope that many of our members will do the same.”
Simon Bowen, Director of Member Engagement at CMI, said: “We’re delighted to partner with the Royal Society of Chemistry to raise the standards of management and leadership in the chemical sciences sector. Many chemists are promoted into management because of their expert technical knowledge and skills but lack management and leadership capabilities. This partnership gives those ‘accidental managers’ a route to develop the essential skills to develop their career and manage effectively which is recognised through achieving Chartered Manager status.
“Not only will that benefit them personally, but there are also huge advantages for employers in having better managers and confident leaders who achieve results.”
This partnership with the CMI will enable members that achieve the CMgr award to take advantage of a wide range of extended benefits through the CMI, including a rich repository of knowledge resources, such as ManagementDirect, an online learning portal used by 360,000+ managers every year. They will also be able to attend networking events with CMI members from beyond the chemical sciences sector.
You can find out more about the partnership, and how to apply for the award, in a free webinar on 17 January.
