Celebrating the cultural heritage of chemistry at EuCheMS 2018
As part of a packed programme for the 2018 EuCheMS Chemistry Congress, we’re hosting a series of talks, open to the public, about the cultural heritage of the chemical sciences.
2018 is the European Year for Cultural Heritage and the 7th EuCheMS Chemistry Congress, held in Liverpool, is the perfect place to showcase the pivotal role scientists play in preserving European culture for future generations. The evening will include talks from:
Dr Brigitte Van Tiggelen, historian of science and chair of the EuCheMS Working Party on History of Chemistry, who will introduce the new EuCheMS Historical Landmarks programme that is making the heritage of chemistry more visible and accessible.
Dr Robert Anderson, historian of chemistry and president of the Science History Institute, who will explore chemistry’s historical role in public culture and its impact on the preservation of its heritage in museums and in the cultural landscape.
Dr Rupert Cole, assistant curator of chemistry at the Science Museum, who will pose the question of how we can collect changing practices of chemistry to preserve the day-to-day practice and experience of doing chemistry.
There will be an opportunity after the talks for you to put your questions to our speakers before the evening is capped off by the presentation of the very first EuCheMS Historical Landmarks award.
Free and open to all, the Cultural Heritage of Chemistry takes place on 28 August 2018, 7 – 8.30pm at the ACC in Liverpool.
The Cultural Heritage of Chemistry is part of the 7th EuCheMS Chemistry Congress: Molecular frontiers and global challenges, held at the ACC Liverpool from 26–30 August. See the whole programme and register.
