Celebrating our third Librarian Appreciation Day
More than 100 librarians from over 85 leading research institutes, universities and institutions from across India attended on 28 July 2017 to listen to presentations from several leading librarians, and participate in an engaging workshop, group activity and panel discussion.
As a flagship event, the Librarian Appreciation Day brings together librarians from research institutes, central and state universities, private universities and corporate houses. Jaipur’s event was the third Librarian Appreciation Day we have organised, with earlier such events organised in 2013 and 2015 at Hyderabad and Pune, respectively.
Commitment to the Indian market
Matt Straiges, Head of Academic Sales, said: “The Librarian Appreciation Day event in India highlights our commitment to the Indian market. The organisation benefits from the opportunity to exchange ideas and best practices with the most influential leaders in the Indian librarian community. The discussions and sessions throughout the day were productive and highly collaborative. The Indian Librarian Appreciation Day helps us foster long lasting partnerships with key stakeholders in India. I valued the experience, and came back with a clear understanding of the current needs and concerns of our Indian librarian customers.”
Sybille Geisenheyner, Sales Manager, Europe, Africa, Middle East and India (EMEAI) added, “It was very encouraging to get to know, listen and discuss with so many librarians from all over India. What I found most interesting is that the challenges, questions and requests are so similar to other territories I cater to. I look forward to working more closely with these new contacts and the Indian team on future solutions for the Indian market.”
Acknowledgements and awards
We also acknowledged and awarded certificates to various institutions for usage and downloads, the highest number of articles (from India) published in our journals, the highest number of articles published from Indian institutes across all chemical science journals and for the highest number of open access (OA) articles submitted to the Royal Society of Chemistry.
For the very first time, the Royal Society of Chemistry also presented two new special category awards – both in recognition of individuals for their contribution towards library and library science community in India. The two new award categories were:
- Librarians Choice Award for Lifetime Achievement – awarded to Professor Jagdish Arora
- Librarians Choice Award for Dynamic Librarian – awarded to Professor Ramesh C Gaur
The Royal Society of Chemistry’s third Librarian Appreciation Day was well received as an event that the Indian librarian community cherishes.
A librarian who attended the day said:
“This is one of the best events for the Librarian community that I have attended! Keep it up!”
