Empowering women
The Royal Society of Chemistry Local Section Deccan, in association with the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), organised a half day seminar on women’s empowerment at NIPER, Hyderabad, on 5 September 2019, for postgraduate and PhD students.
The event opened with an inaugural address by Dr (Mrs) Shashi Bala Singh, Director of NIPER, followed by Professor Peesapati, who explained the importance of education for girls, and how gender equality creates broader benefits for all.
Dr C Ambuja, professor at Osmania medical college, gave a talk entitled "Women’s empowerment in health perspectives". In the second lecture, Mrs B Aishwarya, Lt. Commander, talked about her experiences as part of a six-member all-female team in the Indian Navy, which made history by circumnavigating the globe in eight months, on board the boat INSV Tarini. In a candid chat, the 29 year old Mrs Aishwarya relived the epic expedition.
