Science fair in India – the modern periodic table
The RSC Local Section Deccan organized a science fair on the modern periodic table for school children – to commemorate 150 years of the periodic table.

The fair was run in association with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Indian Institute of Technology (IICT), in Hyderabad on 17 June 2019.
Dr D Sailaja from IICT welcomed the students and guests, followed by Dr Chandrasekhar, Director at IICT, who expressed his happiness on the overwhelming participation of students from various schools.
The chief guest Dr B Saha, Director R&D, L R Research laboratories, gave a short talk describing the life and works of Dmitri Mendeleev.
250 students studying 9 & 10th grade from 70 schools participated in the workshop. The displayed different periodic table designs showcasing various concepts and innovative ideas.
Some of the outstanding projects were: a periodic table for the visually impaired; a periodic table using artificial intelligence; periodic table games; a 3D periodic table; a periodic table of RATES (radioactive abundant toxic, eco- friendly and scarce elements); the history of periodic table; and models of elements.
The first prize went to St Ann’s High School team; the second prize was given to Pallavi Model School and the third prize went to Kendriya vidyalaya, Hyderabad.
The top three schools received laboratory science kits from RSC Deccan Local Section, and the top three best models were rewarded with cash prizes.
