Among the vacancies available are several on the new Subject Community Councils. Our current Science Divisions, and the Education Division will transition to Subject Communities from July 2022. This change follows an extensive review of the Divisions, conducted during 2020–2021.
With our new Communities, we want to emphasise how people from varying interest groups, sectors, career stages, disciplines and locations work together to advance each area of chemistry. The changes will help the members of the Subject Communities to be better represented, better connected, and better able to influence. By making it easier for members to collaborate within a particular subject community – whether that’s for members in industry, academia, education or beyond – we hope to better enable valuable connections and greater cross-sector impact.
A survey of Industry and Technology Division members indicated that instead of members connecting based on being in industry, they would prefer to be better integrated on a subject and professional basis, and so the Industry and Technology division will no longer exist. Chemists in industry will be encouraged to join the subject community corresponding to their discipline or area of interest. As part of these changes we will also be launching Business Elements – a new information hub aimed at members with industry leadership responsibilities or business management interests.
During the transition, members are encouraged to continue to join our Divisions to stay informed about their activities, to be kept up to date on the transition to the subject communities as well as being able to nominate to the Subject Community Councils.
